Listen up Intrepid Adventurers! This is how you do Vivid in one night only.
Vivid has been running for eight years now and is getting bigger and better every year. So to keep up with the festivities, Hilton Hotel on George Street have partnered up with their neighbours at The Queen Victoria Building to create a Vivid experience like no other. We recently attended their Vivid-themed Sunday Session to discover the best bits on offer. Take our lead and book yourself in for the evening and follow our guide on how to do Vivid 2016 in one night only.
Start the night at Marble Bar with the ‘Vivid Spritz’ ($19). It’s the Hilton’s twist on a classic Spritz cocktail using refreshing cucumber and gin. It will ease you in to your night while you snack on their colourful and delicious sliders including ham and pineapple on a beetroot bun, fresh goats cheese on an ashes bun, fennel and zucchini on a lemon bun, and crab and prawn on a spinach bun (4 for $15).
Once you’ve got some energy, head out and pound the pavement enjoying all the unique and exciting lights, sounds and ideas of Vivid. With the Hilton very central to the city and all the lights action, there are many places to explore. Start with The Galeries right next door to the Hilton. It’s one of the new sites this year featuring an overhead, video installation. Then make your way to Martin Place, only an eight minute walk away, to experience the lights and sounds of the human water Fountain. Once you’ve immersed yourself in Martin Place, continue a little way down to Circular Quay where a lot of the magic happens. The Opera House is lit up with birds, shapes and colours and is a huge attraction, a definite must see.
Once you’ve had enough of the crowds, because let’s be honest, that’s most likely the reason you’ll leave, mosey on back to the Hilton and enjoy a nightcap at Zeta Bar. They have a variety of cocktails, including a sour gin, celery cordial and lime cocktail worth a try. You’ll also have an excellent view of the QVB with Hilton’s own light show projecting from within the hotel. Here you you can enjoy a last look of Vivid before retiring for the night.
Wake up after a good night’s sleep in one of their luxurious rooms, enjoy a buffet breakfast fit for a queen (did we mention it’s equipped with a create-your-own Chobani yoghurt station?) at the Glass Brasserie.
