Fix Wine Sydney CBD, a Long Running Sommelier Led Wine Bar on Elizabeth Street
Squeezed between a suit shop and an office foyer near the Hyde Park end of Elizabeth Street, Fix Wine has been quietly reshaping how the CBD drinks since sommelier Stuart Knox opened its doors in November 2006. At a time when after work drinks in Sydney meant the pub, Fix made the case for a wine first bar, and nearly two decades on it remains one of the city's most respected wine lists.
The list runs to more than 200 bottles, weighted toward small, handcrafted and often unusual producers, with a strong pour by the glass program for anyone who wants to work through a few styles across a sitting. Knox, a Sydney Morning Herald Good Food Guide Sommelier of the Year and Len Evans Scholar, is known for steering drinkers toward labels they would not have picked themselves. Food follows a similar philosophy, built around seasonal produce with dishes like roast chicken terrine, whole snapper and a well loved wagyu burger, plus a cheese and charcuterie selection that regulars treat as a house specialty.
It is a small 60 seat room split across a street level bar and an upstairs dining space, so it suits a long lunch or an after work glass more than a big group night out. Trade runs Monday to Friday only, and Fix takes group bookings of 10 or more for anyone planning something larger.
