Eat, Restaurants, Sydney / 6 December 2022

Almost 9 months after opening, the Surry Hills digs will introduce an all-new dining experience serving up a fresh daily catch of whole scampi, yabby and jumbo prawns.

Earlier this year a Surry Hills institution – The Wild Rover – re-emerged from the post-covid ashes with a stunning revamp and a delectable new menu from the team at Liquid and Larder (The Gidley, Bistecca).

Showcasing the bustling charm of old and the sophistication of a dapper New York cocktail bar, The Rover has well and truly earned it’s top restaurant status amongst the foodie streets of Surry Hills. This month, taking shape of a gift that keeps on giving, The Rover has unveiled their level one dining space which will showcase an all-new menu, heroing fuss-free coastal fare best enjoyed with great drinks in hand and fantastic company at the table.

Executive Chef Pip Pratt, has drawn on his childhood in the UK to create the menu, inspiration that’s also evident in the delectable downstairs bar menu, for which highlights include a boujie fishfinger sandwich and caviar with potato chips. The level-one seafood bistro elevates the existing offering into a restaurant experience that creates space for the seafood to shine.

The menu boasts a daily haul of three crustaceans such as a whole scampi, yabby and jumbo prawns, gently poached and served cold, accompanied by dressings of wakame mayo, Marie Rose and hot butter sauce which can be ordered individually or as a delicious trio. For a heartier feast, opt for the deeply flavoursome Turbot chunk with pil pil and sauce Vierge.

Curated by Liquid Larder’s Group Sommelier Kyle Poole, The Rover restaurant’s wine list celebrates grower-orientated, organic and biodynamic drops skewered towards white and sparkling labels that really bring the seafood dishes to life.

Complementing the bustling charm from downstairs, the refreshed first-floor space features large windows that flood the dining area with late afternoon sunlight, gently transitioning to a soft amber glow from adorning lantern-style lighting into the evening, creating an intimate and inviting backdrop to what is sure to be a stellar dining experience.

The Rover’s upstairs bistro is now open between 5pm and 9pm Monday-Saturdays, and Saturday lunch from 12pm. Reservations can be made here.
