Bateman’s Bay introduces a revamped lodging, The Isla, transforming a retro motel into a summer oasis with a 70s-inspired plunge pool.
The South Coast has become the ultimate escape for us Sydneysiders. Take the scenic route two hours south and you’ll start to drive through some beautiful coastal towns including Kiama, Gerringong, Culburra Beach, Huskisson, and Ulladulla to name a few. Brimming with wineries, quaint cafes, an immerging restaurant and bar scene, and of course beautiful beaches, there’s never been a better time to plan your road trip.
If you’re looking to stay the night at stylish but affordable accommodation, we’d head straight to Batemans Bay, a charming town in the Eurobodalla region to discover The Isla. This original motel on Beach Road has been redesigned by the award-winning Those Architects. There are 18 newly renovated rooms with a distinct 70s vibe – think oak furnishings, terrazzo tiles, and brass accents.
There are three luxurious suites to choose from if you’re looking for a more premium experience. The Polo Suite sits above the motel’s refurbished pool and pool lounge and comes fitted with a spacious living area with a sofa, a dining area, a deluxe king-size bed in a separate room, and even a rain shower.
There are so many wonderful things about this motel’s facelift, but one of our favourite upgrades has to be the plunge pool which you’ll have full access to during your stay. The area comes fit with retro lounge chairs, khaki patio umbrellas, a sound system that plays low-fi beats all day long, and beautiful native trees. Another feature that we love is the motel’s idea of a minibar – introducing you to the Cantina. This room has bespoke vending machines which are filled with artisanal products from local producers including Dangerous Ales beers, cocktails from Poor Toms Gin, and ST Ali espresso martinis.
