Applejack completes its Wynyard Precinct puzzle with its latest new opening, Hester’s Cafe & Bar.
Since 2018, Bopp & Tone has transformed Carrington Street in the heart of the CBD. This ambitious new venue is the brainchild of Sydney boutique hospitality group Applejack (founded in 2011 by hospo professionals Hamish Watts and Ben Carroll). In fact, you’ve probably already been to one of their venues, which includes the likes of The Botanist in Kirribilli, SoCal in Neutral Bay, The Butler in Potts Point, Endeavour Tap Rooms in The Rocks and June’s Shoppe in the CBD). Now, the Applejack team is adding an exciting new venue to its burgeoning portfolio.
Finding its place on Carrington Street in Applejack’s Wynyard Precinct is Hester’s Cafe & Bar. Completing the groups’ two-year plan to revitalise this spot in the CBD with a trio of new venues, Hester’s brings a new dining concept to this inner-city location. With more workers returning to offices in the CBD, Hester’s will deliver a cafe by day and Mediterranean-inspired long lunch spot in the afternoon.
Swing by from 7am to 11am to score delicious coffee (courtesy of Gabriel coffee roasters) along with classic brekkie dishes and house-made pastries and muffins. As for lunch (served 11:30am to 3pm), expect a more refined affair that caters in the inner-city market with both dine-in and takeaway menu options designed by Bopp & Tone Head Chef, Sa Va’afusuaga.
Hester’s long lunch menu features a variety of elevated dishes including mains of seared tuna niçoise, Hester’s wood-fired chicken club, crumbed snapper, slowly braised lamb ragout and even Bopp’s popular burger and Char-grilled riverine sirloin. Plus there’s also a selection of seafood morsels on offer including salt cod fritters, flash fried calamari, Sydney rock oysters and Australian king prawns, all of which pair perfectly with a lunchtime tipple.
