Killarney Heights’ loss is a win for Bondi’s cult foodie scene… Head to the seaside suburb to grab legit New York-style pizza by the slice. 

Mikey’s Pizza has well and truly earned itself cult-like status since opening in Killarney Heights back in 2017. Ever since, the iconic spot has been a Northern beaches go-to for those craving classic Italian flavour with a signature New York twist.

Like every venue operator across the nation, for owner/operator Mikey Greenhalgh the pandemic presented a plethora of unforeseen challenges and changes. But with tactful entrepreneurship Greenhalgh has been able to seize an opportunity for a prime piece of real estate at the old Peppe’s space on Bondi Rd, creating a buzz of excitement from Bondi locals in the process. 

The team have completely renovated the space, inheriting the flare of the flagship store, representing a  life truly well lived – full of family, food adventures and rock & roll nostalgia. In keeping with the familial sentiment, a larger-than-life mural of Greehalgh’s own father adorns the walls, the word Mikey’s scrawled across his knuckles as he strikes a mafioso-esque pose.

Set on vibrant Bondi Road, the newest addition to Bondi’s restaurant scene greet you with a blaring neon sign on the way in, Mikey’s Pizza encompasses the busy, eclectic vibes of the Big Apple but with a unique twist that makes us Sydneysiders swoon. 

With pizza available by the slice, you can really work your way through all the offerings in one dreamy carb-fuelled sitting, starting with a signature Grandma Square, a style of pizza originating from upstate New York, set on a Focaccia base where the cheese comes first, then the tomato, and topped off with Oregano. Next, onto The Shrooms, made with a Taleggio cream base, Fior de Latte, confit mushroom,  shallots and garlic, and finished off with porcini dust and Parmesan.

Whatever your preferred topping, gourmet ingredients are a given. Topped with Vic’s Meats, Forage Gourmet Edibles and Two Providores delights, the high-quality ingredients are a nod to Australia’s incredible selection of produce. “We’re passionate about what we offer from start to finish – everything we put on our pizzas or use across the menu is of the highest quality, sourced locally from our suppliers or the markets. It’s all love, good  tunes, and fun times,”  says Greenhalgh
