House Canteen: The New All-Day Eatery At The Opera House Headed By Matt Moran

Eat, Sydney / 17 October 2022

Once known as Opera Kitchen, House Canteen will breathe new life into Sydney’s most iconic dining destination as part of a sumptuous new revamp.

For Sydney’s best harbourside views, with a cocktail in hand, Opera Bar is second to none. And now, The Opera House has scored a new dining destination that will match the iconic backdrop with House Canteen.

Previously trading as Opera Kitchen, House Canteen will relaunch under Matt Moran and hospitality group Solotel (Aria, Barangaroo House, Golden Sheaf and Opera Bar) as an all-day, canteen-inspired dining venue with show-stopping views of Sydney Harbour.

House Canteen

The menu offers all-day dining kicking off with a breakfast of sumptuous pastries and baked goods from Sydney’s best bakeries including fresh Nutella-filled donuts from BadBoy Bakehouse. Your morning caffeine fix is brought to you by none other than Surry Hills-born Single O coffee beans so, you know you’re starting the day in good stead. The lively locale means you can also enjoy a little pre-work ‘commuter theatre’ alongside brekkie before starting the day yourself.

For lunch, a people-pleasing menu of pan-Asian favourites will be available to-go for those on the move, and if you’ve time to spare, take a seat under the sails and enjoy a flavourful array of Hawker-inspired dine-in options. Expect Japanese, Vietnamese, Korean and Chinese-inspired dishes including; Steamed Dumplings with black vinegar & chili oil; a Beef Sando with cabbage, kewpie and chips; Green Papaya Salad with rice noodles, Vietnamese mint, and cucumber; and for dessert, a selection of Mochi including Tiramisu flavour.

The seasonal menu is complemented by a wine list showcasing the best of Australian producers alongside beers and inventive cocktails.

The innovative, crowd-pleasing concept is set to bring a fresh lease of life to one of Sydney’s most iconic drinking and dining destinations offering visitors a vibrant and diverse dining experience. Whether it’s a morning coffee, lunch with friends, a pre-theatre bite or late-night snack following a show, guests can enjoy a delicious new menu with the familiar welcoming atmosphere and of course the same breathtaking views.

House Canteen will open every day of the week for all-day dining, with both dine-in and takeaway options available for visitors on the go. Bookings for the House Canteen are now open and can be made here.
