In honour of its five-year birthday, Hawke’s Brewing Co. has opened a flagship venue boasting a newly built 2,100sq.m brewery in the heart of Marrickville.
Beer aficionado? You’re in for a treat. Fusing pints with politics (now that’s a line we never thought we’d pen), Hawkes Brewing Co. – the popular beer brand founded by former prime minister Bob Hawkins – has opened its doors to the public in the newly built Marrickville venue.
A dream destination for anyone with a thirst for beers, The Bob Hawke Beer & Leisure Centre – so-called to honour of the company’s late namesake – will boast everything from a full-service bar to a curated collection of core-range beers and a rotation of limited-edition pints to boot.
Of the new venture, Hawkes’ co-founder, David Gibson, says: “The genesis of Hawke’s came out of a conversation between two mates, who were living in New York but missing Australia like hell. When we spoke about a vision for the venue, we agreed immediately that the experience should trigger that same feeling of the nostalgic-soaked love that we all have for Australia. Aesthetically, it will appear as if we’ve focused on the past, but we’ve also been mindful of setting up a future-focused business in the way it behaves and operates, just like our brewery.”
Paying homage in equal measure to both Bob Hawkes and his much-loved Australia, visitors can expect a cosy vibe, with a museum-like collection of memorabilia, and several areas in which to sink a pint – including The Public Bar, The Patio and The Lucky Prawn Chinese-Australian bistro.
Created in collaboration with Nicholas Wong, The Lucky Prawn menu boasts clean, contemporary outtakes from the nostalgic 1980s Chinese-Australian food experience, with dishes designed to share with friends, and offers the perfect place to quench your thirst with a tank-fresh schooner. Cheers to that!
The Bob Hawke Beer & Leisure Centre is located at 8-12 Sydney St, Marrickville and will be open from 12pm–11pm Wednesday; 12pm–Midnight Thursday, Friday & Saturday; and 12pm-10pm Sunday. Find out more here.
