Gran Torino Double Bay — Neil Perry's Italian Ristorante and Grill
Neil Perry's Gran Torino is the Italian expression of the Margaret philosophy, bringing regional Italian cooking and premium Australian produce to Bay Street in Double Bay. Opened in August 2025 in the former Song Bird site, it spans two levels: a lively ground floor bar and a refined Level One ristorante, with an alfresco terrace looking out over the street.
In the kitchen, hand-rolled pastas are made fresh daily alongside pristine wild-caught seafood, and the steak program has earned serious attention, ranking No. 7 in Australia and No. 27 globally in the 2026 World's 101 Best Steak Restaurants. Cuts range from grass-fed pure-blood Chianina, served at only a select few restaurants in Australia, to Speckle Park, all cooked simply through an Italian lens. Upstairs is the place for a long, generous feast of shared classics, while a table of up to 22 can be booked in the main dining room and the private Oliveto Room hosts up to 32.
Downstairs, The Bar is a relaxed enoteca-style wine bar built for aperitivo, with approachable wines by the glass, classic cocktails and seasonal light bites. It works just as well for a quick Negroni and freshly shaved salumi as it does for a casual dinner with friends, and Gran Torino is now open Tuesday to Sunday, making it an easy midweek pick.
