Spring is in full bloom at Parramatta Park

Weekend in Wistaria returns to Parramatta Park on the 19th and 20th of September for a free two day festival held among the wisteria, cherry blossoms and flowering fruit trees of the park’s historic Wistaria Gardens.

Expect live music drifting across the lawns, a roving floral bike, and enough spring colour to make your camera roll very happy. Bring a blanket, bring the kids, bring whoever you want to show off Sydney’s prettiest spring corner to.

This is peak wisteria season at Parramatta Park, and the festival built around it is now in its fifth year. Across both days there’s live music on the lawn from Highly ReStrung and roving brass trio Soul Street Brigade, plus Moving Pictures’ floral tandem bike weaving through the gardens for anyone who wants a photo opportunity that isn’t just the flowers themselves.

Families are well looked after too, with Butterfly and Fairy children’s storytime, nature inspired art activities and a chill zone built around music made from plants. This year’s garden display runs to a peace and harmony planting theme, alongside the usual community stalls and food and drink for purchase, or bring your own picnic.

On the Sunday, it’s worth the short walk from the gardens over to Old Government House for the Regency Promenade and Fair, which runs alongside Weekend in Wistaria as a natural extension of the day.

Parking inside Parramatta Park is very limited, so walking, cycling or public transport is the better bet. Entry to the gardens is via Byrnes Avenue near The Picnic Ground. There is no entry via the former Cumberland Hospital site.
