Postino Osteria Summer Hill, the neighbourhood Italian in a former post office
Postino Osteria Summer Hill is Alessandro Pavoni's neighbourhood Italian in the heritage-listed former Summer Hill post office on Moonbie Street, open since 2024. Named for both the Italian word for postman and a small but cosy place, it delivers exactly what the name promises: a home away from home built around handmade pasta, Italian snacks and warm service that knows your name.
The menu draws from childhood memories and family recipes from across Italy, from Piedmont to Sicily. The chitarra con pallottine with tiny meatballs has become a signature, and the team's own pick for where to start is the burrata all'assassina.
The heritage former post office building brings character, with a creaky staircase, a homely dining room spread across two levels, and a private dining room upstairs for groups wanting exclusive room hire. Drop-in guests are as welcome as reservations, the bar is worth arriving early for, and the pistachio tiramisu is the thing people keep coming back for. Alessandro and Anna Pavoni met in the Inner West, and this is their return to the neighbourhood they started in.
