New Opening: Meet Bar Elvina, Avalon’s New Casual Wine Bar From The Co-Owner Of Acme And Prince Of York

Bars, Drink, Eat, Sydney / 22 February 2021

The Northern Beaches has just scored Bar Elvina, a must-see new wine bar from a top-notch team.

During the summer months, we all want to drink and dine by the water. And for a venue that calls the picturesque spot of Avalon home, you’d expect Bar Elvina to have had a bumper opening. But, the end of 2020 had different plans for this exciting new venue.

This fun new wine bar had just opened in December 2020 when the Northern Beaches COVID-19 cluster began. Within days, they were forced to close their doors and were unsure whether their new venue would reopen at all.

But now, Bar Elvina is back and better than ever. And whether you’re a local or have a little further to travel, this wine bar is well worth a visit.

The venue is headed up by duo Andy Emerson and Jesse McTavish. Both are no strangers to hospitality, with Emerson co-owning some of Sydney’s top dining spots include The Passage, Acme, Bar Brosé, and Prince of York. As for McTavish, he’s co-founded top Melbourne spots including Top Paddock and The Kettle Black (as well as leading the kitchen of North Bondi Fish).

But let’s talk about Bar Elvina. The interiors are almost enough reason to swing by, capturing the relaxed vibe of a Mediterranean dining spot. Created by Caswel Group, expect light timber beams, white walls a sunny terrace along with a 140-square metre kitchen garden featuring leafy greens, fruit, and a stack of native ingredients.

And that brings us to the menu. It’s a seafood-focused offering at Bar Elvina, including oysters, raw starters, and larger seafood dishes. There’s also a stack of fresh vegetables on the menu, served with everything from smoked ricotta to fermented chili oil.

You won’t be stuck for something to drink., with a cocktail menu influenced by native Australian ingredients and botanicals. You’ll also find a great selection of wines on the menu, with many of the drops selected from regions near the sea.
