A Fairytale Christmas Village is Returning to The Rocks

Eat, Play, Sydney / 25 June 2019

Bastille Festival is back which means it’s time to deck the halls at the wintery Christmas village.

As we enter the coldest month of the year, it seems only fitting that we get a taste of a proper Northern hemisphere Christmas – snow, gingerbread, carols and all. As part of Bastille Festival, The Rocks will once again turn into a giant French-inspired Christmas village.

Running from 11th- 14th July, punters can expect 25 wooden chalets, with snow machines, Christmas pine trees, decorations, fairy lights, gingerbread houses and Christmas carollers there to keep spirits high. On the important food front, warm your cockles with winter comforts like saucisson, foie gras, crepes and more.

New to 2019, you’ll also find a magical pop-up Ski Village, complete with mini-ice skating rink, French mountain food by Frenchies Bistro, mulled wine, snow and old ski racks.

Complementing the Christmas Village, the four-day festival also promises everything from French-inspired food villages to wine gardens, live concerts, mulled wine cinema and plenty more.

After you’ve sussed out the Christmas Village, here are some of our other top recommendations to check out during the event –

Champagne Bar

Live like the French do and be sure to pay a visit to Bastille Festival’s dedicated Champagne Bar. Running over the four day event, you can find the bar at Customs House in the heart of The Rocks – mere metres from the Harbour Bridge. Grab a glass of bubbles and take a seat on one of the retractable deck chairs with a blanket to keep you warm.

Craft Beers Bar

Champagne not your style? Head to the Craft Beers Bar. Beer lovers can expect five craft beers especially created for the festival by renowned boutique breweries.

Le Mulled Wine Cinema

The intimate outdoor cinema experience is back in 2019, encouraging movie buffs to get cosy in a snuggly blanket with a warm glass of mulled wine in hand. Seating just 100 guests on reclining deck chairs, on the film front you can expect a mix of classic French comedies, family-friendly films and cinematic works by some of the great French directors.

During this year’s celebration, punters can secure tickets to a series of wine and cheese masterclasses. For $95pp, enjoy one long table full of French cheeses and freshly baked bread. Accompanying all this are nine french wines, all to be enjoyed over a leisurely 2hr class. To book your tickets to this experience, click here.

Free circus acts

With over 40 live performers flocking to Circular Quay over the four day event, prepare to be entertained all day and all night. Starting at 3pm every day until 11pm, a program of selected artists will be performing all around the Festival from East Circular Quay to First Fleet Park in the Rocks. From clowns to trapeze artists, fire twirlers, mimes and jugglers, there’s something for little and big kids alike.
