The Boathouse on Blackwattle Bay

Eat, Restaurants, Sydney / 6 February 2012
I admit, it would be hard to date a foodie. Trying to find new restaurants to impress and entice would be a challenge. So ten points goes to Mr Sweet Enough who took me on a very lovely date last year and introduced me to the BEST fish pie in Sydney. Set on the waters edge near Glebe is The Boathouse on Blackwattle Bay. Inside what literally looks like a plush boathouse is where the magic happens. With water views and the Anzac Bridge set on the horizon it is here people flocked to order the snapper pie with smoked tomato and mashed potato.
So good was the snapper pie that I returned on Saturday with two of my girlfriends treating one of them to a belated birthday celebration. We started with a dozen mixed oysters, including Moonlight Flat Angasi, Merimbula Lake Rock and Rusty Wire Rock. I left it up to the waitress to order paying little attention to the menu. I just wish I’d seen Coffin Bay on the menu as these are definitely my favourite type of oyster. A bottle of Cannibal Creek Chardonnay Gippsland Vic 2006 was perfect for a sunny lunch and a nice match with the oysters. There are a number of delicious sounding dishes on the menu and one day I intend to try something else but you can’t go past the snapper pie. So we ordered one each.
Mr Sweet Enough may no longer be around but he certainly gave me something to remember him by, I never forget an amazing meal.
(If you love fish pies then also check out Brown Sugar in Bondi they too do a killer pie).
