My daughter has just become a mum. She lost her little brother when he was a toddler and I never realized what an impact that was on her until she surprised us all with news of her pregnancy while still at uni. Being a single mum (& with me an only child not always so easy to manage), mum and I have always been close and as I get older I’ve come to realise all that she sacrificed for me over the years (sanity mostly. Also nice lunches out and hearing ‘thanks’). After the unexpected loss of my first pregnancy earlier this year my mum was my greatest source of strength and support. She let me cry for hours, but she also sacrificed a call in her house for me to use for boxing practice. The woman is a supernova of compassion and resilience and joy. I can only aspire to be a fraction of what she is. She brought me into this world and she is what makes it a beautiful place. I’d love to celebrate that.
