Now you can snooze in the company of koalas with the opening of a new luxury eco retreat at Taronga Zoo.

If you’ve ever dreamed of having a slumber party in the presence of the world’s beloved wildlife, now is your chance with the opening of Taronga Zoo’s very own luxury eco retreat. Just in time for summer, the Taronga Zoo Wildlife Retreat has just launched the ultimate overnight luxury experience for locals and tourists alike.

With the eco retreat opening up literally in the heart of the zoo, you can wake up to koalas catching some zzz’s in the treetops. If a waterside view is more your style, you’re in luck with Harbour View suites also available as part of the 62 room complex. It’s part of four unique suites on offer – including Bushland, Treetop, Animal View and Harbourview. Behind the design of the new retreat is the talented team at Australian Studio Cox Architecture.

While the overnight stay is a definite drawcard, Taronga Zoo are further amping things up with the new Mel-Gal restaurant. Shining the spotlight on native Australia, here you’ll find dishes celebrating native and locally sourced flora and fauna. Exclusive to treat-accommodation guests only, Mel-Gal will have you covered from breakfast through to dinner.

As you might imagine, an overnight stay at the Wildlife retreat doesn’t come cheap, with a room for two starting from $790. This includes not only your accomodation though, but also a two-course dinner, buffet breakfast, after-dark zoo tours and complimentary access to the zoo.

Funding the project is the Taronga Conservation Society Australia with the help of a treasury corporation loan from the NSW government. It’s all part of a whopping $115 million upgrade to the zoo, as announced back in 2015.

For those wondering, you can still book an overnight glamping stay as part of Roar and Snore.
