The Sheaf Invites you to The Garden Bar

Bars, Drink, Sydney / 15 July 2015

The Sheaf in Double Bay has a little makeover in the garden bar and it’s a bit like escaping into a Hollywood actresses’ 1980s-styled secret garden. ‘Garden Bar’ glows neon pink as the sign sits amidst huge stag horns and creeping vines, boldly announcing yet another new exciting stage for this iconic Eastern Suburbs venue.
As you slip through the outdoor setting you are drawn to the indoor bar that showcases a smart and spacious design by Alexander & Co. (Watsons Bay Beach Club, Surlys Bar). You’ll find a raised DJ booth with a cosy dance floor and curved wooden carrels that are warmed by fitting light fixtures.
The new bistro menu has been created by chef Matt Weller (Wildfire, Ananas) and boasts a huge range from light, share-style plates to modern pub-style classics. From the large and generous sashimi plate to the jus drenched slow braised beef cheeks on soft polenta, roasted shallots, confit garlic and speck, it’s clear to see that Weller knows how diverse the Sheaf crowd can be and he’s catering for everyone. One of the big highlights on the menu for us are the Chicken “Cracker Jack” Lollipops with a spicy green relish.

Take a seat under the gigantic tree covering Garden Bar and try one of their cocktails. The signature Garden Sling with St Germain, Limoncello and seasonal fruits makes you feel like you could be rubbing shoulders with Pam Grier or Heather Locklear. If that’s not enough to get the party started go for the Queen of Tarts, a shared cocktail with Absolut vodka, peach, pink moscato, mint, passionfruit, citrus and soda. The Beer selection could be a little more adventurous though the wine list is quite extensive and highlights some great Australian drops.

The Garden Bar is the first stage of renovations for The Sheaf and if it is to extend upon the new look and feel that the Garden Bar brings, Double Bay is in for a treat.
