Sydney’s newest luxury address opens tomorrow.
The InterContinental Sydney Double Bay is the first major hotel launch the city has seen in years. Judging by the hype, it won’t disappoint.
Promoted as an intimate bayside retreat just minutes from the busy CBD, the new 140 guest hotel is set in the former Double Bay Hotel formerly known as the Ritz-Carlton, a place with a colourful history. If these walls could talk. Built in 1991 it became a hot spot for visiting celebrities such as Madonna and royalty including Princess Diana. It is also where Michael Hutchence hanged himself in 1997.
Singaporean-based Royal Hotels have given the hotel a multimillion-dollar refurbishment with facilities including a ballroom, restaurant, bar and rooftop pool.
“We have seen this hotel grow from a construction site teeming with builders, painters and tilers, into a stunning contemporary retreat replete with designer furnishings, kitchens packed with produce and equipment, and more than 100 full-time staff ready to make our guests feel special,” said General Manager Frederic Brohez.
The refurbishment is a blend of contemporary and classic. The grand staircase, Italian marble features and Parisian balconies are complemented by a sophisticated, modern twist. The seven-metre-long marble bar, specialising in rare and vintage gins, evokes old Hollywood glamour. But a dip in the rooftop infinity pool will snap you straight back to the 21st century.

Reservations are already being taken for the destination restaurant, Stockroom that seeks to continue Double Bay’s 200-year-old rich farming tradition. Diners will enjoy the ambience of an elegant European dining room, seated among glass pantries filled with fresh and imported produce.
Stockroom has an extensive drinks menu of local and imported wines and an exclusive collaboration with Australian winemaker, Penfolds.
Visitors and Sydney-siders alike will enjoy the exclusive Club InterContinental lounge and French provincial courtyard. The retail space at the bottom of the property will complete the vibrant Double Bay neighbourhood, offering Snap Fitness 24-hour gym, luxury Trumps Spa, Henley Wholefoods,  and contemporary Japanese restaurant and bar, Saké.
