Spring has officially sprung! Now it’s time to grab the crew and get planning this month ahead.
As we finally come out of hibernation, Sydney’s social calendar is ramping up with plenty of new happenings in and around the city. From cherry blossom festivals to stand up comedy, a free street party and more, we reveal our top picks on what you should be doing this month.
Croissants and Pétanque at The Fernery
Starting 15th September, head to The Fernery’s lush rooftop bar for ‘Croissants and Pétanque’. On the limited edition croissant menu, you can indulge in an oozy ‘truffle and brie’ croissant and ‘chocolate cookie crumble’. Alongside these decadent pastries, the month-long event will also feature free pétanque on the leafy rooftop, flowing Lanson Champagne and rosé from Provence.
‘Croissants and Pétanque’ will be running every Sunday for a month, starting September 15.
Wine and Sashimi Masterclass at Helm Bar
Sashimi guru and Zushi Head Chef Lee is joining forces with Cloudy Bay winemaker Victor Joyeux for a special wine and sashimi masterclass. Running for one night only on September 25 at Helm Bar, the evening will feature four Cloudy Bay wines perfectly matched with four sashimi dishes, sliced in front of guests, fresh plated and served by Chef Lee. Andrew (Boy) Charlton Pool Official Re-opening Party
While this cold snap might not make it feel like spring is around the corner, it certainly is. This means that Sydney’s Andrew Boy Charlton Pool is reopening for the season. The grand reopening promises free entry between 6am-7pm, a bacon and egg barbecue, poolside yoga, a DJ and more.
Cherry Blossom Festival at Daniel San
Paying tribute to its Japanese heritage, Daniel San in Manly is hosting a month-long Cherry Blossom Festival. Kicking off on 1st September and running until 7th October, head north side this month for pink-inspired cherry blossom dishes, cherrylicious cocktails and a floral photo wall.
Spring Lamb & Late Harvest Truffle Dinner at Birch, Southern Highlands
Looking for some weekend getaway inspo? Look no further than the Southern Highlands and the unmissable Birch Restaurant. In celebration of the start of spring lamb season and as an ode to the late truffle harvest, Birch is hosting a special six course degustation dinner on Friday 6th September. Cherry Blossom Festivities at Saké Restaurant & Bar
Saké Restaurant & Bar is celebrating the start of spring with an abundance of activities to keep you entertained all month. Across all restaurants in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane, Saké is hosting a series of exclusive dinners, a picnic-themed lunch event and limited-edition cocktails inspired by the iconic pink blooms.
Secret Foodies Rooftop Beach Party – Sat 14th Sept
Can you keep a secret? Secret Foodies are ringing in September with an epically proportioned rooftop beach party. Hosted in a secret location (hint: Northern Beaches), where you can party all afternoon with flowing Tatachilla wines, roaming canapés, a live band and plenty of Instagrammable moments. Glenfiddich dinner at The Cut Bar & Grill – Weds 18 Sept
Get ready to expand your knowledge of the wonderful world of whiskies at this whiskey inspired five-course dinner. Hosted at Cut Bar & Grill in partnership with Glenfiddich, dinner includes wine with each course and a special Glenfiddich whisky cocktail on arrival.
Milan dinner at Rosetta Trattoria – Weds 18 Sept
Celebrate the vibrant flavours of Milan with a four course dinner at Rosetta Trattoria. Running for one night only on Wednesday 18th September, dishes will include Milanese antipasti, risotto with saffron, bone marrow and gremolata, osso buco served with grilled polenta and green salad, and for dessert, warm panettone bread and butter pudding served with cream.
Immersive Tokyo-inspired Laneway Experience on Paddington’s William Street
To celebrate the arrival of Koyomi, a bespoke pre-mixed cocktail featuring the Japanese spirit Shochu, Paddington’s William Street is transforming into Tokyo’s Golden Gai Bar District with a series of pop-ups. Endeavour Tap Rooms brings New Orleans to The Rocks for Sydney Fringe Festival
Sydney Fringe Festival is back for its 10th year and Endeavour Tap Rooms plan on celebrating with a month long festival of brews, BBQ and blues. Running throughout September, you can head into the Rocks for a speciality smoked meats menu, an exclusive Endeavour Bourbon Ale, live blues music every weekend, classic movie screenings and menu specials like happy hour wings.
Misfits 2nd Birthday Party
This year marks the 2nd birthday of Redfern’s much loved local, Misfits, and they’re shining the spotlight on all things pairs with a number of special offers. Between 5-7pm is where the magic happens with $2 oysters, two Young Henry’s for $10 and for the other Virgos out there, Misfits will shout you a shot on the house (you just need to show your ID). The team has also designed a new cocktail list inspired by the famous misfit pairs, with $20 getting you a ‘couple’ of cocktails.
Munich Brauhaus and The Bavarian – Oktoberfest Launch Party
Munich Brauhaus and The Bavarian are throwing their biggest and best Oktoberfest bash yet, with an impressive 6 week party! The celebrations kick off on Saturday 21st September with a vibrant street party from 1pm. Head along for keg tapping, games, and a parade with colourful performers and entertainers.
Stand Up at the Oxford Tavern
Every Wednesday evening till 25th September, The Tav is playing host to open mic Stand Up comedy nights on the main stage. To whet your appetite, you can also get your hands on a special ‘humpday’ deal of 3 x tacos for $10. Stand Up nights kick off from 7pm and entry is free!
