The well-known Bat and Ball Hotel is brand-spanking new with an all-star team behind the refurbishment. Expect all-day happy hours, funky vibes and wallet-friendly deals.
The Bat and Ball Hotel is a Redfern staple in the hospitality space. Standing proudly on the corner of Cleveland and South Dowling, it has just undergone a 4-month glow-up by a team of friends. Each has a wealth of industry experience and knows how to run a decent boozer.
There’s Zac Godbolt, the creative director and co-founder of Enmore Country Club and Doom Juice. Rachael Paul, the previous venue manager of beloved neighbourhood spots The Sunshine Inn and Golden Gully. Cameron Votano, the co-owner and executive chef of BTB Kirribilli and Lowkey. And Daniel McBride and Dynn Szmulewicz the owners of The Little Guy and the previously mentioned Enmore Country Club and The Sunshine Inn. It has been a lifelong dream for the group to own a pub together and this one ticks all the boxes with the venue being full of character and rich history.
Everyone has got a story from the Bat and Ball. Whether you knew it for its live music or it was your go-to destination after watching a cricket game. In more recent times it has lost its rep as a live music bar and become more of a tradies hang out. The pub has a lot of character and has retained its old beauty during the reno. The floors remain the same, while the walls (inside and out) have gotten a lick of paint and the bar has a new and improved look.
They have secured a 2am trading license for Friday and Saturday nights for those who enjoy an extended night out. There will be live vinyl DJs spinning your fave tracks while you enjoy an extended happy hour offering $16 negroni and espresso martini, which is pretty impressive for Sydney. If you don’t fancy cocktails, they have an extensive selection of tinnies and budget-friendly wines. They have swapped out the pokies for a bottle shop out front with 50 different wines that you can drink right here at the pub for a fair price of $15 corkage fee.
The food menu offers small plates similar to a wine bar with prosciutto and rockmelon, marinated mixed olives and Pacific oysters. Mains include a classic pub schnitty with KFC-style gravy, a crumbed ling burger and pork belly. Overall the menu is elevated pub grub. You can head around the back for a $3 game of pool and interactive darts or head outside to their beer garden, which is for drinking and smoking.
The Bat & Ball will make everyone feel at home and as cliche as it sounds, there is something for everyone. There’s still space for tradies in their luminous vests but it is also the perfect spot to enjoy budget-friendly offerings with family and friends. The Bat and Ball is also dog-friendly, so nobody gets left behind!
