Grumpy Donuts is shaking up Sydney’s late-night dessert scene with a new interactive offering, Night Shift—a DIY donut experience launching at their St Peters venue on Friday, 21st March.
Available every Friday and Saturday from 5pm to 9pm, Night Shift invites guests to take donut customisation to the next level with a choice of over 30 fillings and toppings, making for endless flavour combinations.
Starting from $8.50, the experience begins with a signature Grumpy Donut, which is then split and filled with one of the house-made fillings—including custard, marshmallow fluff, whipped cream, passionfruit curd, peanut butter, jam, and Nutella. From there, guests can choose two toppings from an array of sprinkles, crushed waffle cone, fresh fruits, cereals, nuts, gummy bears, and even a premium bacon option. Those looking to level up their creation can add extra fillings for $1 each.
The concept is a first for Grumpy Donuts, who have long been known for their handcrafted, small-batch creations. Co-founder Scott Clark said the idea stemmed from ongoing customer requests for late-night donut options. “Having Grumpy Donuts open at night has been something that’s been consistently requested. We figured, why not take it a step further and let people build exactly what they want?”
For those overwhelmed by the sheer number of options, the team will have suggested flavour combinations to inspire creativity. Co-founder Elise Honeybrook’s go-to order is a vanilla glaze donut with whipped cream, Nutella, strawberries, and crushed waffle cone, while Scott recommends a cinnamon donut loaded with peanut butter, jam, banana, pretzels, and a side of soft serve.
The launch of Night Shift will also coincide with a refreshed indoor and outdoor dining space at the St Peters venue, featuring a new display layout and vintage Australian bakery cabinets in original pink and cream tones, along with recycled plastic table tops for a sustainable touch.
Since its humble beginnings in 2015, Grumpy Donuts has expanded from a home kitchen experiment to a Sydney cult favourite, with locations in Camperdown and St Peters, a donut and coffee van, and a large-scale production facility capable of catering for major events and custom orders.
