Live music is back at Sunset Piazza this summer.
It’s been a long time between gigs, hasn’t it Sydney? With COVID-19 restrictions causing the majority of live music acts and large-scale events to be put on ice, we’ve all been patiently waiting for our next chance to see a live performance. And the time has come with news of a brand-new pop-up live concert series coming to Sydney this summer.
Meet Sunset Piazza, the new pop-up outdoor venue and concert series launching from January 28th, 2021. This latest initiative has been launched by the NSW Government and City of Sydney in an effort to encourage locals to get out and support live music acts across Sydney.
Running from January 28th to March 21st, Sunset Piazza will be a COVID-Safe outdoor event, hosted at Cathedral Square opposite Hyde Park. This summer, expect this Italo-themed pop-stage to come alive with live performances across the genres of pop, cabaret, comedy, hip-hop, indie rock, opera and so much more.
Sunset Piazza hopes to give Sydneysiders another reason to return to the CBD with a fun outdoor cultural experience. Plus foodies will be treated to cannoli from artisan providers, a selection of tasty aperitivo as well as classic summer drinks such as a spritz and Negroni. Plus, some of Sydney’s best DJs will be hitting the decks as part of the event’s pre-show, too.
So, who can you catch at Sunset Piazza this summer? Get ready for pop-folk icon Alex the Astronaut, Allday, Ben Lee, an energetic 15-piece Latin American ensemble Cumbiamuffin, plus the 2020 Triple J Unearthed Artist of the Year, JK-47.
They’ll also be Sydney’s favourite Jazz vocalist Emma Pask, classic music mavericks Ensemble Offspring, queer parties favourites Heaps Gay, and more. They’ll even be performances from Opera Australia, Peking Duk (DJ set), Sneaky Sound System, the Sydney Symphony Orchestra Brass Ensemble, and stacks more.
