Unexpected Guest Distillery is serving up trivia, prizes, and a year’s supply of gin during Sydney Film Festival.

To celebrate this year’s program, Unexpected Guest Distillery is turning the CBD into a cinematic scavenger hunt, complete with film trivia, QR-code clues, and over $1,500 in prizes, including the ultimate prize: gin for a year (yep, that’s 24 bottles delivered to your door).

Running from June 4 to 15, the Unexpected Scavenger Hunt is a self-guided adventure across five festival-aligned checkpoints. Scan a code, answer a trivia question or complete a film-themed challenge, and you’ll unlock your next destination. No need to start in a particular order-just follow the clues.

The first checkpoint? Head to the Sydney Film Festival Hub at Town Hall, where the Unexpected Guest stand awaits with your first QR code and some cheeky gin samples.

Each stop gives participants a chance to score daily prizes—think gin tasting experiences, cinema passes, merch, and bottles—whether or not you finish the whole route. But if you hit all five, you’re in the draw for the ultimate reward: a full year’s supply of gin.

“We wanted to expand the festival experience beyond the screen,” says Jane Owen, Co-Founder and Master Distiller. “This is a chance to celebrate film, have some fun, and maybe walk away with enough gin to last all year.”

The scavenger hunt is completely free to join, all you need is your phone, a bit of movie knowledge, and a thirst for adventure (and perhaps gin).
