Heading to the pub this long weekend? If you’re flocking to the Inner West to grab beers with your crew, this free event might just be up your alley. Set in the heart of Marrickville, The Henson’s Pound Paws Dog Day kicks off on Sunday, January 26th 2020 with a jam-packed line-up of activities and entertainment for pups (and humans) alike.
Kicking off from 12pm, The Henson’s Dog Day is a free event in partnership with local charity Pound Paws, set to bring together dogs and dogs lovers across the Inner West and beyond this Australia Day long weekend. Head to The Henson’s leafy beer garden (with pup in tow) to experience this doggie paw-ty activation. Punters can expect an afternoon of free entertainment with Puppy Ball Pits, Doggie Aura Readings, live music and even celebrity judges on-hand to award prizes for the Best Dog Trick and Best Dog Costume on the day.
For those without a dog to call their own, never fear. The Henson’s courtyard will be filled will pups from plenty of Inner West canine rescue organisations with punters able to meet and greet, cuddle and even adopt a dog on the day.
As the afternoon kicks on, head to Henson Park with your pooch to take part in the Golden Bone Dog Race. Running from 2:30pm, attendees can sign up and register for the race on the day (registration open from 1:30pm and entry by donation). All donations from the race will be donated to local dog rescue groups Maggie’s Rescue, RSPCA NSW, Animal Trust Society and Penny’s Marathon. Get ready to run with plenty of prizes to be won, a free beer on entry plus separate divisions for small pups and big dogs alike.
The Henson’s Dog Day is an initiative spearheaded by Australian-based charity Pound Paws, helping to reduce the number of dogs on death row each year. Championing the motto ‘#adoptdontshop’ the charity assists rescue centres and pounds with the adoption process as well as helping to educate and raise awareness about pet adoption across Australia.
