Melbourne’s “master of pasta” is setting up shop in Double Bay.
Greek-born chef Andreas Papadakis, known for the exceptional Italian cuisine in Melbourne’s Tipo 00 and Osteria Ilaria, is set to make his debut in Sydney. The chef, often called Melbourne’s “master of pasta,” will be setting up a new restaurant on Bay Street, and we couldn’t be more excited.
Papadakis is finally bringing his pasta mastery to Sydney’s dining scene, alongside business partners Luke Skidmore and Alberto Fava. The trio are known for their successful Melbourne establishments Tipo 00, Osteria Ilaria, Figlia, and Grana Deli, and have secured prime real estate in Double Bay, on the same street as renowned venues including Neil Perry’s Margaret and his recently opened Song Bird and Bobbie’s. Papadakis’s cooking has garnered serious attention among foodies in Melbourne, with critics applauding his incredible pasta dishes, particularly his gnocchi.
Having grown up in Athens and spending summers in Crete, Papadakis developed a deep appreciation for Italian cuisine. Papadakis worked at French restaurants throughout his learning and was significantly influenced by frequent trips across the border to Italy.
While specific details about the new restaurant are still being finalised, Papadakis has said that the Conferre Group has secured residence in the heritage-listed Ruby House in Double Bay. Additionally, the chef revealed that the Tipo 00 name would not be carried over to Sydney. With the Sydney dining scene eagerly awaiting his arrival, Andreas Papadakis’s new opening promises to be strong on flavour. We can’t wait to experience the delicious creations he has in store, right on our doorstep! Keep an eye on Tipo 00’s Instagram account here for updates.
