George Street Shut Down Makes Way For Sydney’s Open For Lunch

Cool Sh*t, Eat, Play, Sydney / 21 November 2022

Hundreds of diners will pull up a chair to the three-hour lunch served with live music and larger-than-life entertainment over three delicious courses.

This December 2nd, Sydney is opening an incredible summer of entertainment with a long, theatre-filled dining experience. Returning after a sell-out last year, Open For Lunch is promising an even bigger feast of the senses with more live entertainment, more music and more city-stopping theatrics in the middle of George Street.

The unique outdoor setting will see Sydney’s CBD transformed as George Street closes down to make room for a 600-seat table backdropped to the iconic Hilton hotel and QVB.

The three-course menu designed by chef Luke Mangan (Glass Brasserie at Hilton Sydney) will journey through dishes that exemplify the best of Sydney dining. To start, diners will feast on Smoked King Ora salmon with tartare sauce, fennel & celeriac remoulade and dill oil, and for mains, the humble roast chook undergoes a 5* glow-up as chef Mangan serves up Roasted spatchcock with citrus & tarragon salsa with mixed beans, confit garlic and chilli oil. Veggie alternatives include a Grilled sugar loaf cabbage with white polenta, soffritto, capers, and currant salsa.

Woven throughout each course is a heady mix of entertainment including headline act Ministry of Sound Orchestra, amazing DJs, hundreds of performers, plus some unexpected surprises thrown in for good measure.  Sydney-sider Ben Fordham will be the expert MC to guide the day and introduce the acts in what is set to be a larger-than-life celebration of what Sydney and Western Sydney does best: food, entertainment, and bringing people together.
