Powder Keg Bar

Bars, Drink, Sydney / 26 November 2014

A new gin bar has just opened in Potts Point. It boasts having Sydney’s largest gin collection where you can find over 100 different types of gins from all around the world. Word has it they have a little black book which contains all the secret recipes to vintage cocktails. These date all the way back to the 17th century and include Dutch and English recipes.

The Powder Keg bar has been renovated and designed to follow an 18th century-style theme. With leather banquettes, club chairs and a wood panelled bar, even the food menu features dishes that were inspired by 17th century taverns and gin palaces. This includes oysters with gin and tonic sorbet; quail scotch egg with smoked potatoes, crispy pancetta and shimji mushrooms; and BBQ pin wheeled Cumberland sausage. You can also grab a snack and order triple cooked chips and mature cheddar puffs with pancetta crumbs and seeded mustard.

The drink menu was inspired by the history of jenever, gin and the cocktail and features a signature blend on tap, three types of ice, and a choice of five different tonics. Nettle Gimlet (gin, homemade nettle cordial, served in a vintage coupet) and the Gunpowder Plot (gunpowder tea-infused gin, fernetbranca, gunpowder syrup, dandelion and burdock bitters and a tea smoke) are signature cocktails that they offer and are exclusive to The Powder Keg.
