Located in the heart of the CBD, where the City Hotel used to be is where you’ll find Mr Tipply’s. This bar and eatery opened last year attracting the business lunch crowd and those looking for a quiet spot for dinner after work.
The interior is a bit disjointed. Downstairs there’s a bar with African themes whilst upstairs in The Attic is a restaurant that feels like a sophisticated English gastro pub. This may be intentional. Who is Mr Tipply? He’s a fictional character, a man of mystery, an international traveller who could be in Africa one minute and England the next. He is the top hat wearing figure featured on the venues logo used throughout the venue.
The menu, like the venue, is also eclectic with Asian influenced starters including edamame, sang chow bao and and Kung Pao chicken popcorn. Move onto the mains and it’s pub classics like chicken schnitzel and steak.
If you’re a cocktail lover you’ll be please to know the list at Mr Tipply’s focuses on the classics and they do them well. The whisky sour, gin martini and cosmopolitan all get our tick of approval.
Head to Mr Tipply’s on Thursday and Friday nights and enjoy some live music. Get your toe tapping to The Piano Man while you get stuck into the 500gm t-bone stuck and a glass of red.
We’re told Mr Tipply’s will be reintroducing the Gin Trolley, a trolley of gin temptation brought to your table. Fridays from 5pm mark the gin trolley circulating The Attic with $5 Larios Dry Gins, $10 Tanqueray No. 10 and $12 Hendrick’s.
