Miss Peaches Newtown, Review

Drink, Eat, Sydney / 18 April 2018

The Soul Food Kitchen Miss Peaches is a rare gem among the bar drenched Newtown.

You may be well accustomed to the Newtown hotspot, The Marlborough Hotel, or better known by locals as ‘The Marly’, but have you noticed the Soul Food Kitchen Miss Peaches sitting humbly above it?
Miss Peaches is a Southern-style restaurant and bar that has got more soul than a gospel-singing choir. Amongst the bar drenched King St of Newtown, Miss Peaches is a rare find. Here you’ll find a refreshing and entertaining dining experience with real character as they ace their Southern USA vibe. Exposed brick walls complement the alluring booths and dimly lit space. The clever thing about Miss Peaches is they find that perfect middle ground between a crowded Friday night bar and a cosy drinking spot.   Grab a drinking companion and follow the unassuming staircase to be transported to sweet South Carolina.
If you enjoy a wide selection of drinks, American-style food (burgers, wings and the like) live music and aesthetically charming interiors, then Miss Peaches is your cup of tea. Or should I say schooner of ‘Dirty Granny’- the popular on-tap cider.

Perch yourself on the balcony, with a Milky Joe cocktail. Served in a whole coconut, it’s made with plantation pineapple rum, fresh coconut, mint, lime, orgeat and tiki bitters. Definitely Insta-worthy.  Listen to the live band playing soulful Blues- which you’ll find every Thursday and Sunday night. This is when you really settle in.
If you’re feeling particularly peckish, make sure you try the Buffalo Hot Wings, followed by house favourite Miss Peaches Burger, and then if you still have the space… Finish with a Slice O’ Pie!
And just when you thought you couldn’t love the place anymore, Miss Peaches also hold a ‘Welcome Choir’ on the first Tuesday of every month! As the name suggests, it unites both the tone-deaf and the Adele’s among us. To belt out in song to your hearts content, it will cost you a mere $10. Plus, they also offer swing and rock n’ roll dance courses on Wednesday nights. They run in 4 week cycles and cost $16 a class. No booking or up-front payment required! Did someone say new party trick?
Hey Miss Peaches, keep doin’ what you’re doin’.
