A Michelin Guide-recommended Mexico City taqueria that operates out of a mechanic’s workshop by day is making its Australian debut this March.
El Vilsito, featured in Netflix’s Taco Chronicles and The New York Times’ Mexico City guide, is bringing two of its chefs to Howard Smith Wharves and Manly Wharf as part of La Mexicana, a new Mexican food festival running alongside Margarita Week.
The celebrated taqueria is renowned for its tacos al pastor, featuring marinated pork cooked on a vertical spit, thinly sliced and served in corn tortillas exactly as they’re prepared in Mexico City. Sandra Blanco, daughter of owner Juan Carlos Blanco, will travel with the chefs to share the family’s nearly forty years of taco-making tradition.
La Mexicana represents an evolution of Artemus Group’s popular Margarita Week, expanding the celebration to encompass broader Mexican street food culture. Expect authentic tacos, margaritas crafted with Patrón, and immersive styling capturing the energy of contemporary Mexican street culture across both Brisbane and Sydney locations.
