Alexandria Scores An Italian Pasticceria From Da Orazio Chef And Ex-Rockpool Pastry Prodigy

Cafes, Eat, Sydney / 18 February 2023

Chefs Orazio D’Elia and Riccardo Falcone have collabed on an authentic pasticceria.

Chef Orazio D’Elia has spent 2022 expanding the Da Orazio empire, first with a 30-seat Italian bar, snack and jukebox joint located right next door to the mothership, and now D’Elia is diving head-first into the sweet world of Italian pastries as part of an authentic new cake shop, open pastry kitchen and buzzing café, Mia Dolci Italiani, operating from a converted warehouse in Alexandria.

Mia Dolci Italiani showcases classic Italian house-made desserts with a playful twist. Think ricotta-filled cannoli, delizia al limone, rum baba, torta della nonna and crostata di frutta, and also a rotating menu of by-the-slice focaccia slab style pizza for dine in and take away.

Partnering with ex-Rockpool pastry chef Riccardo Falcone, the Campania-raised duo have drawn upon their hometown heritage to bring traditional recipes from Italy’s famed Dolci region, down under.

“In Australia, we have bakeries on every corner, in our hometown it is pasticceria. After meeting Riccardo we forged a true friendship whilst bonding over our upbringings and love of Italian food, we decided we wanted to bring a piece of our heritage here in Sydney,” Orazio said.

The 400sqm converted warehouse space houses its very own chocolate room, serving up a delicious selection of artisanal chocolates, as well as delicious Pizza al taglio for dine-in and takeaway.

Mia Dolci Italiani is now open Monday – Saturday from 8am – 3pm. Find out more here.
