Matteo Downtown Relaunches With A Buzzing Italian-Style Piazza In The CBD

Bars, Drink, Sydney / 12 March 2021

Swing by Matteo Downtown for a slice of Italy in the heart of the CBD.

Last year, the crew from Double Bay’s beloved Matteo restaurant took the leap into the CBD. The launch of Matteo Downtown was embraced by locals, but there’s no denying launching a new venue during a pandemic is a challenging task. So, we’re thrilled to share that Matteo Downtown has renowned this month with an all-new look.

On March 1st, co-owner and Executive Chef Orazio D’Elia reopened their Downtown Bar (with the dining room slated to return in the coming months).

At Downtown Bar, expect to be transformed to the famed Italian cities of Milan and Venice with a vibrant bustling piazza atmosphere. As part of the NSW Government’s recovery plan to revive the CBD, Downtown Bar now boasts space for 120 diners with an increased alfresco dining space (capturing the essence of an Italian-style piazza).

So, what can you expect on the menu at the reopened Downtown Bar? Orazio has curated an exciting new selection of bar-style snacks alongside more substantial dishes and top-notch pizza.

Sample delicious Italian bites such as Fremantle octopus and porchetta skewers with romesco sauce as well as a classic beer tartare sandwich. Feeling a bit more peckish? Try their pasta fresca with braised Veal and Taluca Park egg yolk.

As for pizzas, expect a curated range of Naples-style pizzas which Matteo is famous for. Dig into classic flavours as well as Matteo’s signature flavours including the ‘CBD’ (saffron pork sausage ragu with Fior di Latte and artichoke) the ‘Bond St’ (Fior di Latte with cherry tomatoes, prosciutto, rocket), and Schiacciata (stracciatella and anchovies).

As for drinks, expect classic Italian flavours such as a Sorbellini (a modern take on an Aperol Spritz) or take your pick from their Negroni menu (with five variations on offer).

Downtown Bar at Matteo Downtown is located at 20 Bond Street. Open Monday and Tuesday from 12 pm to 3 pm and Wednesday to Friday from 12 pm to 11 pm. Find out more here.
