MARTA Opens in Rushcutters Bay

Eat, Restaurants, Sydney / 11 October 2017

Indulge in a taste of modern Italy at MARTA in Rushcutters Bay.

Why wait a lifetime to explore the atmosphere of the Colosseum and Trevi Fountain? MARTA has just opened its doors in Rushcutters Bay and is setting McLachlan Avenue alight with the passion and power of modern day Rome.
After spending ten years lost in the aromas of Rome, Flavio Carnevale returned to Sydney five years ago and introduced Rushcutters Bay to Popolo. Inspired by the Sicilian plates of southern Italy, Popolo quickly affirmed itself as a local favourite. With the arrival of Carnevale’s new creation, MARTA, Popolo is relocating to the CBD. In the meantime, Carnevale hopes that MARTA will bring something different to Sydney’s bustling Italian dining scene.

The osteria balances the traditional expectations of Italian cuisine with the realities of modern Rome. The eclectic and refined characteristics of the adored Italian city will be reflected in MARTA’s diverse fit out. Matching accents of olive green with plush leather, MARTA has a variety seating options at which you can bathe in the ambience of Rome. A large oak-topped communal bench, sounds like the perfect place to leisurely graze at Italian share plates. You can alternatively escape the Italian frenzy in MARTA’s intimate courtyard.

The menu delivers on its promise to highlight the glories of Roman food. Showcasing his lengthy experience in Europe’s culture capital, Flavio and Head Chef Chrituan Jordaan will rotate through a weekly assortment of daily specials.  The list looks tempting. The DE’FIORI, is a decadent sounding share platter of buffalo mozzarella, zucchini flowers, anchovies, Grana Padano (a wood-fired Roman pizza). Meanwhile, the Gricia will see guanciale, pancetta, black pepper and pecorino Romano stuffed into short tubes of bombolotti pasta.

The tastes of authentic Rome will be mirrored in the wine list. Flavio has personally assembled a list of grape varieties sourced from the Laziali and L’Olivella regions. Every drop will be served in handmade amphora decanter.
Pining for a swift trip to Italy? MARTA’s wrap-around zinc bar will serve up traditional cocktails and quick snacks to temper you hankering hunger.
It’s time for a Roman holiday and MARTA is ready to take you there.
