Les Misérables: The Arena Hits Sydney, Melbourne & Brisbane

Film & Art / 5 May 2025

A musical masterpiece reimagined at arena scale, with a world-class cast, a full orchestra, and just five weeks to catch the magic.

Get ready, Australia—Les Misérables, the world’s most iconic musical, is being reimagined for the arena stage in what promises to be the most spectacular production yet. Kicking off its strictly limited run at the ICC Sydney Theatre from April 30th, before heading to Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena on May 14th and Brisbane Entertainment Centre on May 28th, this larger-than-life show is your once-in-a-lifetime chance to experience Les Mis like never before.

This is not your typical night at the theatre. Les Misérables: The Arena Spectacular blends the heart-wrenching storytelling of the original with the energy of a rock concert—think thunderous ovations, jaw-dropping staging, and goosebumps all round.

And yes, it’s stacked with stars.

Leading the cast of 65 (plus full orchestra!) are Alfie Boe and Killian Donnelly sharing the role of Jean Valjean, with Michael Ball and Bradley Jaden as the formidable Javert. Comedy royalty Matt Lucas steps in as Thénardier alongside Aussie theatre legend Marina Prior as Madame Thénardier. Add in Rachelle Ann Go, Jac Yarrow, Beatrice Penny-Touré, James D. Gish, and Shan Ako, and you’ve got a lineup that reads like a Broadway and West End dream team.

This is the same Les Mis we know and love—based on Victor Hugo’s sweeping novel of love, justice and redemption—but on a whole new scale. A specially designed arena set by the visionary team behind its European tour brings 19th-century France to life with epic visuals, lighting, and sound that literally lifts the roof.

Already a sell-out in Europe, the world tour celebrates the show’s record-breaking 40th year and is only in Australia for five weeks. Due to huge demand, extra shows have just been added in Sydney (May 10th & 11th) and Melbourne (May 24th & 25th)—and tickets are flying faster than you can say “Do You Hear the People Sing?”

This is more than a musical. It’s a full-scale spectacle. A celebration of one of the greatest stories ever told. And for Aussie fans of Les Mis, it’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for.
