The Ladies League, a new two-story Sydney bar, is making history as Australia’s inaugural women-only sports bar.
Just opened on Oxford Street, the bar will exclusively screen women’s games live and loud, tapping into a passionate fan base that has multiplied since the Matilda’s remarkable performance at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
Founder Rose Valente, who established The Ladies League as a women-led digital sports publication and online community 7 years ago, recognised the need for such a spot in Australia. Despite the increasing popularity of women’s sports, finding dedicated venues that consistently showcase women’s matches remains a challenge. Valente aims to create a welcoming environment where women can gather, cheer, and celebrate their love for sports together. “There’s no real place to do that in Australia, we’ve always come second to men’s sports” says Rose.
The Ladies League will show a variety of women’s sports across its six televisions and one big screen. The venue’s menu will also offer a range of delicious food and drinks, including speciality cocktails, to complement the viewing experience. The kitchen, headed by renowned chef Rojit Maharjan (formerly of Sunday Potts Point), will serve shareable snacks like nachos, dumplings, and charcuterie. To cater to the excitement of big game nights, the kitchen will stay open until 11 pm. In addition, the upstairs lounge will provide a more intimate setting for fans to fully immerse themselves in the action.
Valente expressed her enthusiasm for revitalising Darlinghurst, a vibrant neighbourhood on Oxford Street. The Ladies League will offer a unique sports experience and serve as a welcoming and inclusive space for everyone to enjoy.
