Sydney’s next viral food spot Hongdae Pocha is all about soju, street food, and big KBBQ energy.
Opening Friday, June 27, Hongdae Pocha is the latest concept from the team behind Funda and Buttered (Vuza Hospitality). Think: sizzling Korean barbecue, icy beers, and a loud, neon-lit space that feels like stepping into the streets of Seoul. It’s casual, high-energy, and designed for long nights and loud tables.
Led by Head Chef Haeseung Choi (Michelin Guide, Jueun, and Junior Sous Chef at Firedoor), the food is a bold blend of classic Korean flavours and contemporary twists. The kind of place where you come hungry, leave happy, and probably post about it in between.
What to Eat: 1. Yukhoe- a dish reminiscent of beef tartare but with Korean gochujang (red chilli paste) on a crispy hash brown. 2. Yetnal Tongdak, a whole deep-fried chicken prepared two ways: one half glazed with spring onion and mustard soy sauce, and the other drenched in sweet, sour, and spicy fried chicken sauce. 3. KBBQ- made for sharing and grilling.
What to Drink: Soju -bottled, flavoured, or in cocktails. There’s also Korean beer and the opening promo, which features half-priced soju from 27th June- 6th July.

Cost: Mid-range pricing. Designed for sharing.
Location: 5 Central Park Ave, Chippendale.
