Big news from the World’s 50 Best Bars this week, with The Rock’s favourite Maybe Sammy named the Best Bar in Australasia.
For lovers of a great cocktail, the CBD has plenty to offer. But one new player has been making big waves among Sydneysiders and, most recently, with drinkers overseas. Since swinging open its doors just 9 months ago, Maybe Sammy has quickly become a hot spot for a well-made drink in the heart of the city. And in news just announced, it’s received a huge pat on the back from global industry leaders.
Maybe Sammy has been named the Best Bar in Australasia at an award ceremony held in London yesterday (Thursday, October 3rd). The stellar achievement affords the Sydney cocktail bar bragging rights as the only Australian bar to be named as one of The World’s 50 Best Bars. With a ranking of #43 in the global competition, Maybe Sammy joins the ranks of a string of exceptional bars from the globe’s biggest cities including Rome, London, Shanghai, Hong Kong and Milan.
And this accolade is a big deal for the venue. The World’s Best 50 Bars is an annual list celebrating the best of the international drinks industry. The global ranking comes off the back of a vote by more than 500 drink experts from around the world, including renowned bartenders and consultants, drink writers and cocktail experts. Since launching in 2009, this list has served as the go-to international guide to the world’s best watering holes and drinking destinations, respected and revered by drinks professionals globally.
For Maybe Sammy, this is just the latest of a number of awards earned by the cocktail bar. Since opening, the venue has collected several prestigious national and international bar awards including Best International New Cocktail Bar at the 2019 Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards, plus Best Cocktail Team, Bar Team of the Year and NSW Cocktail Bar of the Year at the 2019 Australian Bar Awards held in Sydney.
