Gowings Bar and Grill is located in the QT Hotel, in the heart of the CBD and is the perfect place to escape the busy streets below. The entire hotel has transformed what was once the old Gowings department store and part of the State Theatre into a flawless wining and dining experience. It’s edgy contemporary design meets the style of a European brasserie – a concept created by acclaimed Sydney restauranteur Robert Marchetti.
The interior seats a hundred and twenty diners, and during the day, natural sunlight filters through the restored antique window frames. The dining space is dotted with retro, quirky touches and art, as well as art deco and bespoke furniture. The kitchen is open plan and entertainment in its own rite- watching the chefs whip up amazing fare at a sizzling pace is like watching dinner theatre. The dedicated glass seafood room is also a sight to behold.
The staff are attentive and helpful, despite the pace and business of the restaurant. It’s a weekday lunch and the place is full of suited businessmen and women conducting long lunch meetings.
Music from the bar filters through the restaurant and provides a warm ambiance while choosing from the approachable menu with plenty of choices. Here are just some of our recommendations:
