Four Pillars has just been named the 2019 International Gin Producer of the Year

The crew from Four Pillars Gin have just received an epic accolade at the event widely considered the Oscars of the international drinks industry.

Four Pillars have gone from strength to strength in 2019. Earlier this year they sold 50% of their business to beverage bigwig Lion, and since then they have proved seemingly unstoppable in the global gin market.

And in news just announced at the 50th Annual International Wine and Spirits Competition in London, the Yarra Valley-based distillery has just been presented with one of the industry’s greatest accolades. Four Pillars co-founder and Distiller Cameron Mackenzie received the 2019 International Gin Producer of the Year award on November 28th at a black-tie gala boasting 600 leaders of the global drinks community.

For Mackenzie, the award is a huge pat on the back for the entire Four Pillars team. “This award is a tribute to every single person who has helped us make, sell, create, drink or buy one of our gins. This is a reward for all of them. This award is not for a single one of our gins but for the whole of our gin business and that’s what makes it so incredibly special.”

This epic accolade comes amidst news of the distillery’s newest venture, with the Four Pillars team recently revealing they are setting up a new home base in sunny Sydney. From early 2020, following plan approval, Four Pillars will be opening a dedicated gin and drinks lab in Surry Hills.

Taking over the 1930s Bussell Bros. building, adjacent to The Dolphin, the team will bring their 70L Carl still ‘Eileen’ up from Healesville, Victoria to be on the premises. This will allow them to make small batches of perfectly crafted gin with groups large and small.

With plans to distill gin on site, Creative Director of Drinks, James Irvine, will have an outrageously specced bar to showcase all the delicious drinks you can do with Four Pillars as a base.

Pending approval, soon you’ll also be able to pop in for an after work tipple with a small bar license in the works.

While they’re at it, they will also have a retail store selling Four Pillars Gin products including an ever-growing range of Made From Gin products. This will include marmalade, Gin Pig Salami and Hunted & Gathered chocolate in addition to bar kits, t-shirts, gin books and drinking miscellany.

Down the track, you can also expect a space for masterclasses, corporate events, tastings and gin gatherings for one and all.

While details as to the opening date are still scant at this point, we can safely say that Four Pillars will make for a welcomed addition to Surry Hills vibrant drinks scene in the not-so-distant future.
