From the North Pole to Sydney: Buddy Takes the Stage.
Everyone’s favourite larger-than-life elf (quite literally) is making his Australian debut, and it’s shaping up to be one of the best festive events of the season! Elf: The Musical lands at the iconic Concert Hall later this month, bringing a touch of Broadway magic to Sydney.
After months of anticipation, the cast has finally been revealed, and it’s packed with talent. Gareth Isaac (Grease the Musical, Mary Poppins) steps into the candy cane-striped shoes of Buddy, joined by Australian showbiz icon Simon Burke (Wicked, Moulin Rouge! The Musical) as Walter Hobbs. The lineup also includes Brianna Bishop (The Deb), Lara Mulcahy (Mamma Mia!), and Katrina Retallick (Come From Away).
Adapted from the beloved Will Ferrell film, the story follows Buddy, a human raised as an elf at the North Pole, on his quest to find his family in New York City. Expect hilarious mishaps, heartwarming moments, and a lot of holiday magic.
“Elf: The Musical is pure joy, wrapped up in a giant Christmas bow!” says director Eric Giancola. “It’s the perfect way to sprinkle some traditional holiday magic into Sydney’s sunny summer celebrations. With its infectious energy, it’s like a snowball of fun that keeps growing as the show goes on.”
This production, designed for the Concert Hall, features a cast of 17 performers and a live on-stage band of 15 musicians. With music by Tony Award nominees Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin (Aladdin on Broadway), and a book by Tony winners Thomas Meehan and Bob Martin, this high-energy musical is a love letter to the holidays.
