Sydney’s Most Viral Wrap Café Just Dropped a Brand-New Sandwich — and We Got the First Bite.
If you’ve spent any time on TikTok lately, chances are you’ve seen that wrap. The Chicken Caesar Wrap from Cross Section Café in Darlinghurst has racked up millions of views online — including one clip with over 1.5 million views alone (see here) — and triggered daily queues of eager locals and foodies waiting to get their hands on it. But now, there’s a new reason to line up on McLachlan Avenue.
Today, the team behind Sydney’s most viral wrap is launching a brand-new sandwich, and we’ve got the exclusive first taste. Say hello to the It’s Like a Burger sandwich — a seriously stacked sando layered with in-house burger sauce, pickles, jalapeños, diced onion, American cheese, a shredded sharp cheddar mix, and tender, slow-cooked shredded beef. And yes, it tastes just as indulgent and delicious as it sounds.
We sat down with co-owner Josh — one half of the Cross Section duo alongside Brent — to chat about their journey, their viral moment, and what’s next as they approach their first birthday.
“Brent and I had always wanted to start a business together,” Josh shared. “After looking at several locations, we found this spot and both of us felt it had to be a sando shop. Three weeks later, we opened Cross Section.”
The viral rise of the Caesar Wrap changed everything. “We were tracking well for a six-month-old business and growing nicely, but overnight, we went ballistic… literally,” says Josh. “Adding the Caesar Wrap changed our daily operations and our lives.”
That momentum shows no sign of slowing down. With the one-year milestone just around the corner, the Cross Section team is gearing up for more. “We’re super excited for year two with growth as our mindset,” Josh tells us. “The one thing we wish we knew from the start is that it’s going to be a success. So, don’t stress out too early and trust your menu, team, and service.”
Cross Section’s new It’s Like a Burger sandwich officially launches today, and if the lines for the Caesar Wrap are anything to go by, we suggest you get there early.
