Cirque du Soleil is bringing one of its most celebrated productions, Corteo, to Australia in 2025, marking the first time this iconic show will tour the country.
The production will visit Perth, Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Adelaide between August and October, offering Australian audiences the chance to experience its unique blend of acrobatics, theatre, and visual artistry.
Originally premiering in Montreal in 2005, Corteo—which translates to ‘cortege’ in Italian—tells the story of a clown who envisions his own funeral as a grand, carnival-like procession. The show juxtaposes the large and small, the absurd and the profound, creating a striking balance between comedy and deeply moving moments. Featuring Cirque du Soleil’s signature aerial performances, acrobatics, and stagecraft, Corteo is an imaginative and immersive experience that has already captivated over 12 million spectators across 30 countries.
One of the most distinctive elements of Corteo is its double-sided stage, a first for Cirque du Soleil. The audience is seated on either side of the performance space, offering a unique perspective that enhances the connection between the performers and spectators. Inspired by the grandeur of the Eiffel Tower, the stage’s intricate design and hand-painted backdrops add to the theatrical atmosphere.
Mike Newquist, Chief Revenue Officer of Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group, highlighted the show’s impact:
“Corteo is a real celebration of life that blends comedy with never-before-seen acrobatics. Australians who loved the breathtaking artistry of LUZIA will be equally captivated by Corteo.”
