The new cheeky checkpoint to hit the cross is restaurant/art bar Buns and Balls. It opened last Friday pulling a funky, fresh crowd. Buns and Balls is exactly what the cross needs; a happy medium to kick-start your night of wild. Its laid back lounge areas are surrounded by festoon lights and original artworks from some of Sydney’s own street artists, creating an appetence amongst the audience to eat, drink and laugh.
The menu, as the name suggests, offers the best of buns and balls. The New York style burgers are bursting with flavor in a perfect balancing act between gourmet and greasy. The Char-Grilled Beef Burger ($10) is a stand out, classic flavor combinations zing with a generous addition of BB’s burger sauce. The Meatballs are bangin’, great to share and even better when they’re all yours! The lightly crumbed barramundi balls ($9) are beautiful and fresh, just like the kind you’d expect to be frying up after a long day of fishing.
Quench your thirst with freshly squeezed juice cocktails ($12), choose between a muddle of mixed fruits and flowers, Watermelon, Cucumber, Apple, Elderflower, Pineapple and Blood Orange to add a splash of summer to the evening. BBs is also bringing back the Spider. Don’t go past The Ginger Beer Spider ($12) for a fizzy, nostalgic experience.
The art that colours the landscape is a crafty mix of iconic personalities with a comedic twist, street art, stencils and type, created by the Chrown artists – Knoswet, Jerry Wash, Henry Curchod, Cam Scott, Resan, Oscar Solomon and Nick Ingall. The whole vibe in BBs, thanks to the art, staff and layout is low key, fun and the perfect place to pop into at any point during your night, whether its after work, late night bites or pre-drinks. Wednesdays there will be live art and Thursdays will be jiving with live Reggae bands.
