Drink Champagne, eat cheese and get your hair done all at once at Blown Lux.
This is such a brilliant idea, I can’t believe no one else has thought of this before! This keeps flooding my mind as I sit back with a glass of Champagne in one hand, a cheese knife slicing brie in the other. A bubbly Scottish lass is chatting away as she brow dries my hair. Like a lot of ladies out there, this is my idea of heaven and it comes in the form of Blown Lux, the new blow dry bar that’s actually a bar!
Located in the Barangaroo precinct Blown Lux is perfectly positioned to pamper and beautify all of those corporate ladies working in the towers above. Not to mention a central meeting point for after-work drinks, pre-wedding or hens party blow dries and races ready make up applications.
Open Monday to Friday from 7am the new blow dry bar has a lot of ladies coming in before work to get their hair done explains the salon manager Julie. But it’s later in the afternoon and evening that things start to come alive at Blown Lux. The music is pumping and bartenders are pouring wine and shaking espresso martinis.
Alongside a fully-stocked bar and antipasto selection to match (hello cheese board), Blown Lux offer a variety of services. A classic blow dry will cost you $55 with different styles to suit your occasion including the smooth, professional ‘Straight Laced’, the sultry ‘Bigger the Better’, messy, wild waves ‘Off Duty’ and a ‘Date Night’ option that’s meant to be glamorous, stylish and flirty. I opt for somewhere in between a Bigger the Better and an Off Duty style.
They also create classic up dos and braids for $70 and a ‘Man Up’ service especially for men. For $30 it will leave you sloshed, washed and styled.
If you’re going all out you can book a full make up application by one for their experts for $70 and eyelash application for an additional $25. Or you can just get your eye make up done for $20. I like the sound of the $30 refresh, which Julie explains is quite popular amongst corporate women who want their make up touched up professionally as they transition from work mode to going out.
Bottles of sparkling, Champagne and prosecco are available for purchase by the bottle or the glass. A glass of sparkling will cost you $12 a glass, prosecco $10 or $45 a bottle. If you prefer Champagne, Mumm Champagne is $18 a glass or $95 for the bottle while Perrier-Jouët is $22 a glass or $109 for a bottle. Glasses of wine start at $9 a glass and beers are around $8-9. You can pick up the pace with an espresso martini for a reasonable $16. Pair it with a cheese board starting at $16.
Open until late Mon – Sat Blown Lux strikes a perfect balance between practical and fun. Why not combine getting ready with pre-gaming? Cheers to that!
