Sydney’s French restaurants and bars are marking Bastille Day with everything from candlelit jazz nights to five-course wine pairings. Here’s where to go.

Ananas, The Rocks

Ananas is giving Bastille Day the full French brasserie treatment, anchored by a Cape Grim rib-eye on the bone with bordelaise. The optional 11-dish set menu spans oysters, crudités, chicken terrine and baba au rhum, alongside the regular à la carte menu.

Bar Tilda, Sydney CBD

Bar Tilda is marking Fête de la Musique with a three-night takeover, transforming the CBD cocktail bar into a candlelit Parisian late-night escape, with live jazz, all-vinyl DJ sets and a French apéro menu of duck and foie gras croquettes, coquilles Saint-Jacques and oysters.

Aperitif & Co

Aperitif & Co is leaning into European bar culture and winter indulgence for Bastille week, with Tour de France wine flights, a three-course French wine pairing dinner and a rotating dessert and Champagne pairing menu.

LouLou

LouLou is extending Bastille Day into a six-day celebration of French culinary icons, with limited-edition pastries and a bistro menu inspired by Paul Bocuse, Joël Robuchon, Maison Troisgros and Bernard Pacaud.

Frenchies Bistro & Brewery

Frenchies is serving Cassoulet Montalbanais, a southwestern French classic of confit pork belly, house-made Toulouse sausage and confit duck leg, slow-baked with parsley and white beans in a rich tomato sauce.

Frenchies Bakery & Pâtisserie

Two doors down from the bistro, the bakery is serving up French classics including daily baked baguettes, millefeuilles, éclairs, madeleines, Saint Honorés, croissants and pain au chocolats.

Armorica, Surry Hills

Armorica is celebrating la fête nationale with two exclusive set menus from Executive Chef José Saulog, served to share, plus à la carte from $18. On 19 July, Nikki Nouveau performs French chanson classics — Piaf, Barbara, Brel — for a Parisian lunch. Book before 5 July for a complimentary glass of Chablis or Bordeaux with the lunch set menu.

Manly Pavilion

Head Chef Michael LeCouteur’s shared set menu runs from French onion soup and steak tartare through to beef bourguignon and sole meunière, finishing with a Paris-Brest. The night also features can-can dancers and French café singer Emma Hamilton.

Bistro Moncur, Woollahra

Bistro Moncur is marking Bastille Day with a special menu from Head Chef Tom Deadman, including a truffle omelette, beef bourguignon and a hazelnut Paris-Brest. Guests also get 20% off French wines next door at Moncur Cellars.

Bistro Red Lion by Manu, Rozelle

Manu Feildel’s Rozelle bistro is hosting a five-course Bastille Day dinner in a shared-table setting, opening with Champagne and canapés and featuring Comté cheese soufflé, scallop boudin and crème brûlée with Armagnac prunes.
