Sydney’s favourite intergalactic martini bar is marking three years with an event that is equal parts wild and wonderful: a tattoo pop-up.
That’s right — this Saturday, May 17th, Bar Planet is swapping out olives for ink in a one-off collaboration with celebrated Sydney tattoo artist Onnie O’Leary.
Known for its psychedelic terrazzo bar, wax-laden candelabras, and martinis that taste like your best memories (but funkier), Bar Planet has become a beloved Inner West institution — and it’s leaning all the way into its cult status with this latest stunt. From 2pm, guests can line up for a tattoo from a specially designed flash sheet inspired by the bar’s most iconic elements: think swaying martini glasses, candle drips, popcorn, and yes, the infamous Skyscraper martini crowned with seven Kalamata olives.
“We get tagged in martini tattoos all the time,” says Daisy Tulley, Group GM at MUCHO (the hospitality group behind Bar Planet). “To see people literally wearing their love for this bar on their skin — it’s the ultimate compliment. So we thought, why not make it official?”
Enter Onnie O’Leary, an artist known for her bold, nostalgic style and razor-sharp line work, who has crafted a set of Bar Planet-inspired designs that will be available first come, first served from $100 a pop. She’ll be stationed inside the venue, needle buzzing away while bartenders sling signature serves.
It’s all a fitting tribute to a venue that’s helped redefine Sydney’s cocktail scene — making martinis less stuffy and a lot more fun. Whether you’re a diehard regular, a curious first-timer, or just someone with a soft spot for candle wax and cold drinks, this birthday bash promises the kind of magic only Bar Planet can deliver.
