Complete with traditional Hawaiian food, live music and a trip to Hawaii to be won.
Get ready to feel the aloha spirit with Aloha Freshie in Freshwater! The precinct is bringing a taste of Waikiki’s sandy shores to Sydney’s north with a weekend celebration of Hawaiian culture. Expect the best of Hawaiian food, drinks, music, and entertainment, including authentic Hawaiian cuisine and refreshing tropical cocktails.
Aloha Freshie is more than just a festival; it pays tribute to the special connection between Waikiki and Freshwater — in 1914, Hawaiian surfing legend Duke Kahanamoku’s surfboard demonstration officially put Freshwater on the map as the birthplace of Australian surfing. Kicking off on August 2nd, Aloha Freshie starts with a special outdoor screening of Waterman, a Duke Kahanamoku biography that explores the legacy of the five-time Olympic medallist and how he came to popularise modern-day surfing.
Over three days, guests can enjoy a series of pop-ups at Harbord Diggers’ Ocean Terrace. The acclaimed two-hatted restaurant, Pilu at Freshwater, will be serving up “Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck,” with famous piping hot shrimp scampi led by Executive Chef and owner, Giovanni Pilu. Husband and wife duo, Barry and Lucy Jones from Mrs Jones The Baker, will feature their take on Leonard’s Bakery’s famous Malasadas, Hawaiian and Portuguese doughnuts. Adding to the deliciousness, the Harbord Hotel will also be dishing out fresh poké bowls and pork rolls. To complete the Hawaiian experience, Aloha Freshie will feature live traditional Hawaiian music and hula dancers. For drinks, the Harbord Hotel has partnered with the iconic Royal Hawaiian Hotel (affectionately known as “The Pink Palace”) to bring three of their world-famous cocktail recipes to Freshwater for the entire month of August.
And for the ultimate Hawaiian experience, a return trip for two to the shores of Waikiki is up for grabs. Courtesy of Hawaiian Tourism and Hawaiian Airlines, the trip will include flights and accommodation fully paid for, so you can soak up more sun!
Aloha Freshie takes place from 2nd August – 4th August. For more information, visit their website here.
