A Warm Winter Welcome

Bars, Drink, Eat, Restaurants, Sydney / 9 July 2013

Monday night was made special by the Bondi Hardware media and celebrity winter menu launch.  Pendulum, the Bondi-based PR company, did a fantastic job in creating a beautiful, buzzy atmosphere, as well as ensuring all guests arrived care free and convivial with a special offer from Uber. Uber is a sophisticated black car taxi service with plenty of perks and personality.
A selection of sweet and sprightly cocktails, namely the The Hardware Fizz and The Flower Doctor were floating around on arrival along with some very friendly faces. Great plates of canapés tempted the appetites of the attendees before we were placed at pre-organized seating for an anticipated three course winter dinner accompanied by Howard Park Wine from the Margaret River region.

The albacore tuna ceviche was jeweled with pomegranate and spiced with red chilli, served up next to a crunchy bunch of lotus root crisps. This was well balanced and rather moreish. Next up was the cheeky Notorious P.I.G, bite-sized and succulent pieces of pork belly enriched by an apple sauce with a twist of mushy mint peas. On the side was a luscious beetroot and goats curd salad in a honeyed beet reduction, a classic combo. The Howard Park Flint Rock Pinot Noir was an absolute treat with this dish.

The braised beef cheeks were paired with pickled enoki mushrooms and horseradish mascarpone. They were soft and tasty with a subtle sourness from the pickled mushrooms adding another dimension to a traditional course. To wrap up the night we were warmed up with an apple-rhubarb crumble and buttery warm mulled cider.
It would have been nice to have a little bit more of each dish, which were more like tapas plates than full meals. Luckily the conversation was flowing, the company great and the general atmosphere very bright, everyone seemed satisfied. To their credit, Bondi hardware also offered a post-dinner prawn pizza, for those who stuck around.
The entire night was such a delight. Pendulum did exceptionally well in pairing up tables and creating a friendly, casual ambience that was full of interesting individuals.  The food was delicious and the wines were impeccably matched to each meal. Bondi hardware is certainly offering a warm welcome to all this winter.
