Taste Port Douglas Returns to the Tropics This August

Drink, Eat, Play / 15 July 2024

Far North Queensland’s beloved food festival, Taste Port Douglas, is back for its eighth year from 8-11 August. This time, the celebration extends beyond Port Douglas to include Cairns, promising an even grander experience. Co-founders Reina and Spencer Patrick are set to revive the area, recently battered by Tropical Cyclone Jasper, with an exciting lineup of Australia’s top culinary talents.

EAT: A Feast to Remember

This year’s Taste Port Douglas promises an array of mouth-watering events. One of the highlights is the long sea-side luncheons, where guests can savour exquisite dishes against the stunning backdrop of Four Mile Beach. The festival kicks off with a grand launch party at the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort. Under the stars, attendees will enjoy delightful food, refreshing drinks, and lively music.

On Friday, the Masterclass Series features Brisbane’s acclaimed chef Ben Williamson. He will share insights into the success of his award-winning open-fire restaurant, Agnes. Additionally, the Lexus Long Lunch, hosted by the charismatic Alastair McLeod, offers alfresco dining under vibrant Poinciana trees. Guest chefs will serve a three-course feast using the finest local produce, accompanied by premium drinks from Jansz Tasmania and Chaffey Bros. Wine Co.

DRINK: Toast to the Tropics

Taste Port Douglas isn’t just about food; it’s also a celebration of exceptional drinks. Throughout the festival, guests can enjoy various beverage options, from local distillers to international wines. Saturday’s Italian Long Lunch, “La Dolce Vita,” includes a live cheese-making demonstration by Vannella Cheese. Guests will enjoy an Italian feast prepared by chefs Massimo Mele, Laura and Max Sharrad, and Bente Grysbaek, paired with the perfect wines.

The Festival Village at the Sheraton Grand Mirage Resort offers a day filled with pop-up food and drink stalls. Local brewers and distillers will present their finest creations, ensuring there’s something for every palate. To top it off, the Festival Sunset Closing Party provides the perfect opportunity to dance the night away with tropical cocktails in hand as the sun sets over the Coral Sea.

PLAY: Fun for All Ages

Taste Port Douglas ensures there’s plenty of entertainment for all ages. Saturday night’s “A Night of Fire” at Flames of the Forest promises an unforgettable experience. Renowned chefs Nick Holloway, Ben Williamson, Aaron Ward, Julian Hills, and Louis Tickeram will create a fire-licked feast deep in the world’s oldest rainforest. The setting offers a sensory delight with its unique blend of flavours and atmosphere.

For families, The Wildlife Habitat’s “Breakfast with the Birds” provides an interactive experience. Kids and adults alike can enjoy a morning meal while learning about local wildlife. Meanwhile, in Cairns, the Jerry Mai X Paper Crane collaboration brings a fusion of flavours to the city’s vibrant food scene.
