North & Common, nestled within the historic walls of the former Pentridge Prison’s mess hall, promises an elevated neighbourhood dining experience, a feast of seasonal delights, and an expertly curated wine list.

There’s a certain charm about dining in a place rich with history and mystery, and North & Common, with its location right next to the iconic Clocktower gate, has this in abundance. The restaurant, which can host 180 patrons, both indoors and al fresco, takes you back in time with its 10-metre-high ceilings and original bluestone walls, warmed by the glow of firelight.

North & Common aims to be the new darling of the northside community, blending old-world charm with modern comforts. Its heart beats to the rhythm of Chef Mark Glenn’s produce-driven menu. Glenn, with his impressive career that includes stints at Cumulus Inc, Dinner by Heston, and the Pavilion Restaurant at Pialligo Estate & Smokehouse, is thrilled to bring his culinary magic to his home city of Melbourne.

Expect a menu that sings the praises of fresh, local produce with dishes such as spanner crab risoni, grilled ox tongue with cashew cream, black barley and pine mushroom, and calamari with a zesty paprika dressing. The wine list, masterminded by Liinaa Berry, one of Australia’s most thrilling sommeliers, features 150 labels from Australian and international vineyards, with a focus on sustainable viticulture.

If spirits are more your style, you’re in for a treat. North & Common boasts a selection of craft drinks, featuring local gems like Starward Whisky, Three Foxes Vodka, and Patient Wolf Gin. And if cocktails are what you crave, don’t miss the rosemary and thyme sour or the intriguing truffle & sundried tomato martini.

Situated at 1 Pentridge Boulevard, Coburg, Victoria, with on-site parking, North & Common is set to be a hot spot, opening seven days a week for breakfast (7am-10am) and dinner (5.30pm-11pm). Keep an eye out for lunchtimes from June 2023 on Saturdays and Sundays, between 12pm and 3pm.
